Hocking County Deputies arrest man for theft and impersonating an employee of the state

The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 40 year old man of Circleville with theft from the elderly and impersonating an employee of the state, both felonies.

Allegedly the man made contact with an 80 year old female at her Good Hope Twp. residence identifying himself as a State of Ohio chimney inspector advising her all chimneys must be inspected every two years.
The man conducted a quick inspection of her chimney and told her she must write him a check for $1,640. Fortunately, she recorded his license plate number, and then reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.
