Hocking County deputies arrest four for heroin possession and theft.

Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North reports that on March 31, 2012 four Zanesville residents were arrested after an early morning theft at Wal-Mart. The four suspects are charged with felony Theft and Possession of Heroin.

At approx. 5:00 A.M. Sergeant Kevin Groves, while on patrol, was flagged down in the Wal-Mart parking lot by employees. The employees told Groves that several people had left the store without paying for merchandise and provided a description of the vehicle. Groves was able to locate the vehicle a short distance away on U.S. Route 33 and stopped the vehicle. Groves, with the assistance of other deputies and officers from Logan P.D. was able to recover merchandise, valued over $1000 believed to be stolen by the individuals in the vehicle.


Some of the items were laptops and flat screen TV’s. Deputies believe these individuals have possibly been involved in other thefts of this nature recently in this area and in other communities. The investigation into those thefts will continue as investigators work with law enforcement in those communities.

Heroin and drug paraphernalia were located resulting with additional charges filed against the four individuals. All four individuals were incarcerated at the SEORJ pending their arraignment in Hocking County Municipal Court.
