CAUGHT IN THE ACT: TWO ARRESTED FOR SPEEDWAY B&E
(DELAWARE COUNTY, OH) May 20, 2012 – Two people are facing felony charges in connection with a B&E that occurred early Friday morning, May 18, at the Speedway gas station on U.S. 23 north of Lazelle Road.
Delaware County deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the location shortly after 2 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies spotted a pickup truck leaving the location. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and questioned the driver who told deputies she was at the location to pick up a friend. While talking with the woman, deputies heard commotion coming from a wooded lot near the south side of the building. Additional deputies arrived on scene to find the back door of the business had been removed.
Deputies, with the assistance of Columbus Police, set up a perimeter and located a man, hiding in a wooded area with a dark colored sweatshirt hiding his head. The man was carrying a backpack containing criminal tools, such as a hammer, crowbar and sledgehammer.
He was also found to be in possession of a garbage bag filled with approximately $500.00 worth of tobacco products.
“Deputies reviewed surveillance video from the Speedway location which confirmed that the man did commit the crime. He was arrested for B&E; deputies also arrested the woman who was driving the car. She is facing a charge of complicity to commit B&E. In this case, our deputies acted fast and were able to respond to the location before the suspects had an opportunity to getaway,” said Acting Sheriff Scott C. Vance.
Both defendants were arraigned Friday morning in Delaware Municipal Court and have been released from the Delaware County Jail.
