Washington County Sheriff Reports Arrest of Man for Heroin Possession

An anonymous tip led to the arrest of a twenty-five year old Beverly resident in Morgan County yesterday afternoon. The man was reportedly returning to the area after purchasing narcotics in Columbus. With the assistance of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and the Beverly Police Department, Major Crimes Task Force Agents conducted a traffic stop near Beverly. Following a canine indication for the presence of drugs, Officers searched the vehicle and discovered a small quantity of marijuana. Informed later that additional drugs were possibly hidden in the vehicle, Officers conducted an extensive search and discovered approximately six grams of heroin concealed in an area under the dash.
As a result of the traffic stop the suspect faces a second degree felony charge of having a hidden compartment in a vehicle, a third degree felony charge of possession of heroin and misdemeanor charges of possession of suboxone and possession of marijuana.

The Major Crimes Task Force is a multi-faceted organization composed of representatives from the Marietta and Belpre Police Departments; the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, the Morgan County Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff’s Offices and the Washington County Prosecuting Attorney and Sheriff’s Offices.
