An alert off-duty Delaware County Sheriff’s deputy alerted dispatchers to a suspicious looking man attempting to conceal his identity outside of a fueling station. Recognizing the behavior as odd, the deputy contacted dispatchers with the license plate number of the vehicle the man was driving. Dispatchers ran the vehicle’s license plate number and the deputy immediately recognized the name of the registered owner from arresting him previously.
Two additional deputies were dispatched to the location, en route to the location they noticed a vehicle matching the description given swerving between lanes. The deputies followed the vehicle for a short time before initiating a traffic stop. The off-duty deputy joined the other two deputies in conducting a traffic stop, at which time it was found the driver and his passenger were in possession of heroin and paraphernalia associated with heroin use. Both the driver and his passenger were arrested on charges of felony drug possession and possession of drug abuse instruments.
