On September 7, 2011 at approximately Midnight the Darke County Sheriff’s Office received information that a 24 year old suspect was located at130 East Water Street in the City of Greenville . The suspect was wanted on three outstanding warrants including a felony warrant for failing to appear on a probation violation out of Darke County Court of Common Pleas and a warrant for failing to comply with a court order out of Darke County Juvenile Court on a case of non support of dependents.
Before Darke County Deputies and Greenville Police Officers arrived to investigate another call was received reporting that the suspect was causing a disturbance in the building. When Deputies and Patrolman arrived the suspect had barricaded herself in an upstairs apartment belonging to her mother,and her mother’s boyfriend.
Present in the apartment at the time of the barricade were four other people including a five year old child. The suspect refused to come out of the house and the investigation revealed that she held one of the others against his will in the apartment until he was able to escape approximately 6 hours after the stand-off started. The other adults in the apartment were uncooperative with law enforcement and assisted the suspect in her resistance to arrest.
The Darke County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and Negotiator’s responded to the scene. Negotiations occurred of and on during the night but the suspects were resistant and often belligerent with officers.
At approximately 7:00am Special Response Team members forced entry into the apartment and took three suspects into custody. A child was turned over to her father unharmed at the scene.
Greenville Township Rescue responded to the scene but was released with no transport required. There were no citizens, officers or suspects injured in this incident. The stand-off lasted approximately 7 hours. Some neighboring apartments were evacuated during the stand-off.
The original suspect is being held in the Darke County Jail on the felony warrant and additional charges as a result of this incident are pending. Two other suspects were booked into the Darke County Jail on felony Obstructing Justice charges pending the filing of formal charges through the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office.
