Two men suspected of damaging and stealing roughly $25,000 worth of property from 14 motor homes and trailers parked at a storage center are in the Delaware County Jail charged with felony breaking and entering and theft.Two men both of Ashley, were arrested early Tuesday, October 18, after being stopped by DelawareCounty deputies. Deputies witnessed the men stealing copper wiring from a cell phone tower earlier that morning. When deputies stopped the suspects’ vehicle, more than 40 pounds of copper wiring was retrieved from the vehicle.
Sheriff Walter L. Davis III said, “Detectives had been conducting surveillance on these guys for weeks. We believe they are also responsible for stealing a catalytic converter a few days earlier from a van belonging to Highpoint NazareneChurch in Delaware.” The vehicle part was recovered and returned to the church, but no additional property has been recovered at this time.
The men have been charged in connection with stealing the catalytic converter, and face additional charges in connection with the break-ins at 42 Storage & U-SellCenter late last month. Davis said, “Our detectives believe that these men may be responsible for other thefts that have occurred throughout central Ohio. It’s possible more charges will be brought against them.”
A third man was in the vehicle when was also arrested and faces a charge of receiving stolen property.
