From the Muskingum County Sheriff... On April 7, 2012 our office was notified about a homicide that had happened in Guernsey County, our neighboring county the night before. Cambridge Police was looking for a suspect and gave us his vehicle description and license plate number.
At about 1130am, Sgt Matt McCauley was checking motels along I-70 for the suspect vehicle. He located this vehicle at Bakers Motel on Route 40. Sgt. McCauley verified the plate number, notified the dispatch center and called for additional units. Sgt. McCauley then spoke to the motel manager and confirmed which room the possible suspect was in. There were no occupants in the rooms next to the suspect so there was no need to evacuate anyone. Once the additional units were in place, Sgt. McCauley had the office manager call the suspect’s room. He told the suspect that there was an issue with his bill and he asked the suspect to come to the office. After several minutes, the suspect exited his room and was taken into custody without incident. Cambridge detectives were called to the scene and our office assisted them with a search warrant on the motel room.
